Post 52 Self Portraits: Week 7 (catching up)
As promised, here are the photos I took for week 7. I'm much closer to what I was originally shooting for, but not 100% there.

I thought I would try to include a little more in the background this time. The shadow from the "flower" on the blinds was an added bonus... I wasn't expecting that to happen at all, but when I saw it in the camera's LCD, I took advantage of it.

I'll get a set up shot posted shortly to show how I took these.

Here's the set up. You can see my mix of DIY lighting along with my flashes. My exposure times were approximately 1/6th of a second... Not something I could use with the kids or the dog. :)

Great work John - I see your vision a little bit better with this set of images. You are truly a do-it-yourselfer! You cant' tell by looking at the final images how your lighting was setup. Great work!

Thank you Steve!

I enjoy the DIY potential for lighting in photography. It was a part of what attracted me to the hobby. Hopefully I'll find more opportunities to mix lighting like this to get interesting results.... I'd like to find bulbs powerful enough to use faster shutter speeds. 1/6th of a second is a bit long for portraits. I did see some 150 watt equivalent CFLs at a hardware store recently. I may give them a try. I have a 300 watt equivalent, but it's too big to fit in my work lamps. :)
